I have been unable to find out which planes are flying but judging by todays practice flights, there will be spitfires, and mustangs and the harvard among others, rumors are rife on the internet that lord march was the mysterious donor to the Vulcan to the skies project and that it will be making an unannouced flight though it is not listed on the vulcan website and the red arrows are listed as being in Newcastle.

As per the festival of speed, i shall be putting a few teaser pics up before i do a gallery, with the camera fixed hopefully the pictures should be a lot better then the festival ones!

Vickers Vimy Goodwood Revival ~ Last Flight

The Vickers vimy, a British heavy bomber developed during the First World War, the Vimy was both a successful military and civilian aircraft, flying into the history books on excursions to Capetown, Australia and the first ever flight across the Atlantic (piloted by Alcock and Brown) in 1919. This replica of the original aeroplane performed its last public display flight at on Sunday 20th September at the Goodwood revival 2009. However im sure that was said of the Avro Vulcan at one point so you never know, it left Goodwood airfield bound for Brooklands Museum in Surrey to live out its remaining days.
unfortunately the scheduled flight for the day went of plan and i was in the wrong place as it flew over an hour early over shooting towards the sun on a grey sky making for a not so brilliant picture, none the less its still ok ish.

Avro Vulcan XH-558 – Revival More pictures and video

I have decided to post some more pictures today of the Avro Vulcan from yesterday as 1 just doesn’t do it justice or bring in the actual scale and how close and low it was. From left to right picture 1 is “as shot” reduced in size to fit on your screen, when i reduce the images to fit screen size it loses definition if you try to magnify it, picture 2 is the same image but cropped to give a closer look with more detail yet still resized to fit, picture 3 is the unedited natural size of the original photo but cropped to only show the aircraft, yes it really was that close! and lastly picture 4 is another angle looking north.

Be sure to check back this week as there are more images from the revival to come spitfires, mustangs and some classic cars too……who would have thought?

Lastly i have come across a video (thanks bro) on you tube filmed well with excellent sound capture something i didn’t achieve, probably one of the best videos ive seen.

    Enjoy

    Avro Vulcan XH-558 – Goodwood Revival 2009

I vividly remember standing on a raised bank by the river Lavant back in 1982 as a boy of 9 my mother standing next to me and the noise of this awesome amazing aircraft, i have waited 27 years to see this beauty in the sky above my head sadly my mum was not with me today but she was in my heart, and i will never forget the joy in her face jumping up and down in excitement when it flew over it gave me a shiver and a chill then as it did today, thank you to all at the vulcan to the sky trust that have made a cherished memory come to life again, long live the vulcan.

Avro Vulcan - Revival 2009,waynes photos

Shot from here (belated thanks to the land owner).

Some information about the Avro Vulcan and what makes it so special designed in 1947, measuring 97ft or 29.59 meters long (that’s 2 1/2 buses) with a wingspan of 99ft or 30.18 meters with a top speed of 627mph (just under mach 1) so successful was the technology involved in the design of these aircraft the engines were later scaled up to power Concorde.
All in all there were 136 Vulcan bombers built comprising of 2 prototypes 45 mk 1 and 89 mk 2 although only 16 remain in existence in museums there are 4 nose sections that were kept however XH558 is the ONLY fully working vulcan at this present time, and finally if you thought your car was high maintenance or not good miles per gallon this baby burns about £1000 of fuel every 20 mins.!!!! not for nipping to the shops.

I wonder if i will ever get to photograph the Vulcan and Red arrows in the same picture another 27 years perhaps?

    Enjoy
    Wayne
