Snowy landscapes – Halnaker Windmill

Halnaker has always been a favourite place of mine for quite some time now, peace and quiet and stunning views, Iwent out yesterday with Halnaker in mind but on arrival at the carpark a fellow photographer told me the snow wasnt deep, with this in mind and the forcast of more snow I penciled in sunrise this morning, I wanted to be the first person up there and no prior footprints, what follows is a picture i have wanted to take for years, it was hard work keeping the snow of the camera in the driving winds i took a few shots on the way up as well so I will start with them ….

Halnaker Windmill Star Trails – Perseids Meteor Shower

Well the peak night to see the Perseids was Wednesday night alas cloud over the southern part of England made viewing impossible, after some research Jonathan found out that all though the peak viewing time was Wednesday you can still see them up until august 22nd, so we decided to go up to the windmill on Thursday night to try and catch some on the camera, semi inspired by a local Portsmouth based photographer Adam Currie i had in mind an image of Halnaker windmill with huge star trails and a few meteor streaks flying through.
Unfortunately due to the temperature outside and the heat generated from the cameras sensor my lens fogged up during a 15 minute exposure. so my setting up/test shot was my only shot lucky for me my test shot came out ok with a little colour balance work in photoshop.

    Halnaker Windmill Moon Lit

I am So Excited about this post as I have been working towards this photograph for over a year now   Some of you may have seen the images I have taken during the last year while trying to achieve this photograph though none came close to this. I’m happy with my image and think we may finally be able to say we are finished at this location. As mentioned on my last post the weather changed for the better and im very glad we decided to go back up.

Feel free to leave comments below.

Halnaker Windmill Sunset on Full Moon Night

Another month goes by and the full moon week was ruined by heavy cloud,  all bar Wednesday night where the cloud was light rain was forecast but we went out anyway, from the top of the hill at Halnaker we could see rain over Brighton and Worthing and in the other direction to Portsmouth Southampton and beyond, after setting up and taking a couple of sunset pictures and a look out to sea to see the clouds coming in.
So we packed up and went for a drive noticing a short while later the cloud had cleared, so we picked up the bare essentials for what we needed to shoot the windmill by moon light and headed back up for what turned out to be almost perfect conditions with the cloud returning just as we were finishing up.
Below is another sunset picture from Halnaker Windmill and the Moon lit picture will follow tomorrow.
They say every one has a place where they feel at peace some people just feel comfortable being somewhere,
I feel at Home when im up at the windmill shame there is no house there.

    Sunset @ Halnaker

Well its been a busy few months and haven’t had chance to post anything for a while so i do have some pictures to post but will start with the most recent last night saw a return trip to Halnaker windmill, after many visits with shots being either out of focus or noisy or too dark, i have finally cracked it. well i damn well hope so because carrying all our equipment up that hill its a chore, even though we cheated twice.

    Halnaker
As we arrived a light shower came over the top of us and then the sun set producing some amazing colours and a rainbow i took several shots with the rainbow very clear in them all except for this one which has the best cloud colour you can see the rainbow just!

As light was fading fast it was essential to get the camera on the windmill so i could get it in focus for later but decided to be cheeky and push my luck which paid of with the next picture it needs little else in the way of a description.
